What is Viva La Body?

We’re the flamingo in a flock of seagulls... the nose-seducing, planet-loving heroes of personal care. We make handmade, solid state, plastic-free, personal care products designed to make you smell and feel unstoppable, helping you feel like fabulous and confidence eloped and had a rainbow-filled baby. 

We are proudly Australian-made and Australian-owned.

I heard Viva changed owners... where is it based now, and who are the new owners?

Founded in 1999 by Jo and Micko on Larrakia Country (Darwin), Viva La Body was their love letter to the body, the senses, and the planet.

In 2025, Ellie and Murray (Go For Zero) were thrilled and honoured to take over Viva, building on 25 years of bold, natural brilliance with a completely redesigned range, and the return of many of Viva's favourites. Viva is now proudly based on Gubbi Gubbi (Kabi Kabi) land near Maroochydore on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast.

What are the core values of the brand?

• Cruelty-free, palm oil-free and vegan formulations using all-natural ingredients.
• Plastic-free, Chlorine-free paper packaging printed using soy-based inks, ensuring all Viva products are home compostable after use.

What categories of products does Viva La Body offer?

We create solid personal care products that refuses to conform. Think deodorants that keep your pits legendary, fragrances that make strangers randomly smell you, and soaps that detoxify, pamper and restore your aura. We are currently finishing production on our new salon-grade shampoo and conditioner bars made by actual humans in Australia from natural ingredients and some amazing outdoor balms that give bugs the flick. Many of our products are also available as gift packs or in sample sizes.

Are Viva La Body products vegan and cruelty-free?

Abso-ludels. None of our products use animal-derived ingredients — and we never test on animals. Viva La Body is all about cruelty-free, be-kind-to-everything-including-yourself-and-the-planet vibes.

Are the products palm oil-free?

A massive YES on this one also. All of our products are CERTIFIED PALM-OIL and PALM-OIL-DERIVATIVE FREE! Because we believe clean skin doesn’t have to cost the planet. Want to be sure for your own peace of mind, just send us a message and we can send you through a copy of the certification.

What about Viva La Body packaging?

Viva packaging is designed to return to the earth, but we need some help from you here. Some of our products can be ordered without packaging - so wherever you can please shop nude! Every tube, carton, and shipping box is designed to be home compostable, using chlorine-free paper FSC-certified paper and natural adhesives. We also print using soy-based inks meaning that you can safely compost or bury your used Viva packaging and complete its cycle. Our plastic-free approach also applies to our warehouse logistics and our customer shipping. 

Where can I buy Viva La Body products?

You can score the full range directly from our online store, that’s the easiest way to grab deodorants, soaps, balms*, solid hair care*, and everything else (especially new products and limited editions). Keep an eye on our socials and join our mailing list for the latest deals and new product drops. Additionally, there are retailers across Australia which stock the brand, including goforzero.com.au, or our other stockists here. 

Does Viva La Body ship internationally?

Not right now. Sending small parcels across the planet packs a hefty environmental punch, and we’re not down with that. But you can snag our goodies through Go For Zero: they ship internationally by fully offseting their carbon emissions, so your favourite bars and balms can globe-trot with confidence.

Do the deodorants contain aluminium, bicarbonate (bi-carb), or other common deodorant ingredients?

No way! Viva only uses natural ingredients which are kind to your body and the planet. Viva La Body deodorants are formulated with no aluminium, no parabens, no sulphates, no silicones, and no baking soda (bi-carb). Instead, we load our deo's up with magnesium to keep your pits (and anywhere else you dare to use them) calm, fresh, and fabulous without any irritation. 

Why were shampoo, conditioner, or facial bars discontinued?

We had to pull our solid hair and moisturising bars because a key ingredient (Brassica alcohol) couldn’t be sourced palm-oil-free, and we don’t do anything that clashes with our planet-kind approach. Good news: our new manufacturers have provided certification that their Brassica alcohol is CERTIFIED palm-oil free, so these bars will be back soon (we are already having fun testing samples!). What should I do if I have sensitive skin or allergies?

Your skin is precious, a bit like you! Please always check the product label for potential allergens or sensitivities, and don’t skip a patch test if you’re trying essential oils or natural ingredients for the first time. If anything looks suss, seek medical advice. Rather not take the risk? Reach out to us, we looooove to talk about everything Viva to make sure your Viva experience is as perfect as you are.

What is the brand’s environmental / conservation commitment?

Every product is crafted to be planet-kind: plastic-free, toxin-free, and designed to be home-compostable, meaning it is good for you today and tomorrow. Our warehouse runs zero-waste by eliminating plastic from all parts of our logistics and recycling our paper products. We carefully source certified ingredients to minimise environmental impact. But we are never satisfied... our next goals are to offset our shipping emissions and give back to community. We look forward to sharing our progress via socials and emails as we grow.

How are ingredients sourced and disclosed?

We handpick ingredients that are kind to you and the planet — no shady shortcuts, no nasties hiding in fine print. Every ingredient in our products is listed clearly on the label, so you know exactly what’s going on your skin. From ethically sourced essential oils to magnesium that actually works, we’re all about transparency, honesty, quality, and a little bit of mojo.

Are the products handmade, and how does this affect availability?

Absolutely. While Jo and Micko aren’t elbow-deep in the mix anymore, we’ve teamed up with two amazing family businesses on the Gold Coast and in Stanthorpe to keep our small-batch, handmade magic alive. Each batch may look a little different (a slightly quirky shape here, a charming imperfection there) but that’s a good thing. It means you’re getting a product crafted by real humans with with skill, care, and a lot of local love.

How can I find the ingredients list for a product?

All products feature a full ingredient list on the packaging, as well as on each product page online. You can also find a full overview of all ingredients on our Ingredients Guide page.

Are products suitable for all skin/hair types?

Our products are jam-packed with all-natural goodness, but even the nicest ingredients can sometimes mess with sensitive skin or hair. So please, check the ingredients if you have concerns or a history of skin/hair sensitivity. And always do a quick patch test before diving in. Better safe than sorry, we want you glowing, not glitchy. 

My deodorant is too hard to push up! What should I do?

Uh-oh, stuck deodorant alert! Sometimes a little heat (or cold) can make our magnesium-packed sticks a little shy. No stress: just roll it back and forth on a flat surface with gentle palm pressure, and it should pop free like a champ. Your pits will thank you. Deo still stubborn ? Email us love@vivalabody.com

I noticed some graining in my product, is it normal?

Yep-aroo - that little texture quirk is totally normal. Our deodorants are packed with natural goodies like shea butter and coconut oil, so they sometimes show a bit of personality when temperatures swing. Graining doesn’t affect performance, safety, or your epic freshness. Fear not your pits are still fully protected.

If the texture bugs you, just give it a tiny warm-up: hold the stick against your skin for a few seconds before introducing your deo to Brad's Pitts, or leave it in a cozy spot where it can warm up before going to work. 

My deodorant/perfume is dry or has changed colour — is that normal?

Totes. Natural products like ours have a mind of their own sometimes. Plant-based and mineral ingredients can shift in colour, texture, or consistency depending on temperature, humidity, or a little travel adventure.

Store your deodorant in a cool, dry spot away from direct sunlight to keep it looking its best, but honestly these quirks are proof your product is alive, real, and full of goodness, not packed with some synthetic filler. Every shade and texture change is a little badge of natural authenticity. Embrace the weirdness.

What is the brand’s philosophy on packaging and waste?

There is no sugarcoating it - we f***ing hate plastic. Every Viva La Body product and shipping box is designed to be home-compostable, so when you’re done, it goes safely back to the earth. Sure, you could chuck it in the yellow bin, but why not go full enviro-beast? Toss it in your composter, drop it in a hole, or fill it with soil and seeds and watch it become something new.
